Why do floaters occur?
There are four main reasons:
1. Normal fibers and cells are usually seen in the vitreous body;
2. Floaters are suddenly found due to vitreous degeneration caused by myopia and aging;
3. Some floaters are caused by retinal diseases. Patients with myopia, retinal rupture and diabetes will suddenly have more floaters;
4. Inflammation in the eye such as iritis.
When should I see a doctor if I have floaters?
You should see a doctor as soon as possible for a detailed examination.
How to treat floaters?
Using laser to eliminate floaters in the vitreous body is currently a relatively effective method in empirical evidence. Most patients can improve their symptoms through this treatment.
Laser energy can be focused on one point of the vitreous body, instantly vaporizing the opacity of the vitreous body or allowing the floating objects in the center of vision to settle to the bottom, thereby improving the impact of "floaters" on patients. The characteristic of glaucoma is that the optic nerve is compressed and atrophied, resulting in peripheral visual field defects. Most glaucoma is painless and difficult to detect in the early stages of the disease. Therefore, it is called the thief of vision. It is one of the main causes of blindness in adults worldwide.
